What New Skill will you Learn in 2013?

I love January, it’s a brand new year and we are all filled with great feelings of optimism for the months ahead, with new ideas and dreams of what we want to achieve.
According to various internet search engines featuring in the top ten of New Year’s resolutions  we have:-

  • Getting organised
  • Learning something new
  • Spending more time with friends & family

I was chatting about starting a blog and the above resolutions to my fellow “new mum” friends.  Somewhere in our random chat they also discovered I taught first aid, and talked about what a skill it was to be able to save a life!

It was then suggested to me that you could tick all three of these popular resolutions by learning CPR.

A quick call/email to friends and family and one rainy Thursday evening later and they had all learned the new skill of administering CPR to a baby or fellow adult.  For me who already has this skill I gained the idea of a new work offer and content for this blog thereby being a lot more organised than my usual writing things last-minute!

There are some frightening facts & stats from The British Heart Foundation but the one that hit me (as I usually teach first aid in the workplace) is that statistically if you are called on to carry out CPR, the life you save is likely to be someone at home: a child, a spouse, a parent or a friend.

I’m sure many have seen the Vinnie Jones advert and even just familiarizing yourself with Hands only CPR can increase the chances of survival.

Do you make New Year’s resolutions? Do they come under the already mentioned topics at all?

Without really realising it I had covered two of these popular choices by starting a craft night at the end of last year which is back up and running after the festive break both learning a new skill and spending time with friends

Business-wise however I guess I will resolve to give my clients and contacts more free resources and daily tips as their feedback has asked for this – which requires me to be very organised!

No wonder the above three are so popular World Wide!

Wishing you every success in the year ahead
